Privacy policy
Updated 12 August 2026Effective 12 August 2026Jurisdiction: Australia
This policy explains what personal information ModeEval collects when you read the site or subscribe to catalogue revisions, why we hold it, who else handles it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who operates this site
ModeEval is an independent editorial desk publishing reviews of Android games at modeeval.com. We act as the entity responsible for the personal information described here. Enquiries about this policy can be sent to mail@modeeval.com.
What we collect
- Technical and log data. Your IP address, user-agent string, referring page, requested URL, response code and the date and time of the request. This is generated automatically by the hosting infrastructure whenever a page is served.
- Cookies and similar identifiers. Small files stored by your browser. Categories, purposes and lifetimes are listed in our cookie policy.
- Subscription form data. The email address you enter and, if you choose to give it, a name. The name field is optional and may be left blank. The form does not ask for a telephone number, a postal address or a date of birth.
- Push identifiers. If you allow browser notifications, our push provider stores a subscription identifier issued by your browser, together with the browser type and approximate country derived from the connection.
- Audience measurement. Aggregated counts of page views and referrers, where the optional cookie category has been accepted.
We do not ask for, and do not want, sensitive information as defined by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Please do not send it to us.
Why we hold it, and on what basis
| Purpose | Information used | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Serving pages and keeping the site available and secure | Technical and log data, necessary cookies | Our legitimate interest in operating the site |
| Sending catalogue revisions by email and browser notification | Email address, optional name, push identifier | Your consent, given by ticking the box on the form |
| Understanding which entries are read | Aggregated audience measurement | Your consent, given through the cookie banner |
| Displaying and measuring advertising placements | Advertising cookies and identifiers | Your consent, given through the cookie banner |
How long we keep it
- Server logs: up to 12 months, then deleted or aggregated beyond identification.
- Subscription records (email address, optional name, push identifier): until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them, and no longer than 24 months after your last interaction.
- Consent records: 24 months, so that we can show what you agreed to and when.
- Cookies: for the lifetimes set out in the cookie policy.
Who else handles your information
We keep the list of processors short and name them plainly:
- Hosting and content delivery. Our hosting provider processes technical and log data in order to serve pages and protect the site from abuse.
- OneSignal. Our push and email delivery provider. OneSignal processes your push subscription identifier, your email address and any tags attached to your subscription (the site domain, the optional name and the source of the subscription) so that revision alerts can be delivered. It acts on our instructions for this purpose.
- Advertising partners. Where advertising placements are served, the partner behind them may set cookies or read identifiers in order to display and measure a placement. This happens only if you accept the advertising category in the cookie banner.
We do not trade personal information, and we do not pass your address to other publishers or mailing lists. Some of these providers operate servers outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union; where information is handled overseas we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected to a standard comparable with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Cookies and the consent banner
The first time you open the site, a banner asks whether optional cookies may be used. Necessary cookies are always active because the site cannot be served without them. Your choice is stored locally in your browser and can be changed at any time by clearing site data and reloading the page. Full detail sits in the cookie policy.
Your rights under the Privacy Act 1988
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you may:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and request access to it;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete;
- revoke your consent to email or push notifications at any time, which stops future messages;
- ask us to delete your subscription record;
- ask us how we handled a request, and complain if you are not satisfied.
Write to mail@modeeval.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our answer, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), the national privacy regulator, at oaic.gov.au or by telephone on 1300 363 992.
Unsubscribing
Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link. Browser notifications can be switched off in your browser settings for this site at any time, without telling us first; doing so stops delivery immediately. Asking us to delete the subscription record removes the address and the push identifier from our provider as well.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to subscription data is limited to the two people who run the desk and is protected by unique credentials and multi-factor authentication. No method of transmission over the internet is perfectly secure, but we review these arrangements whenever a provider or a tool changes.
Children
The site is written for adults choosing games, including games suitable for children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed, write to us and the record will be removed.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it and the revised version is published here. Material changes to how subscription data is used will be announced in the next revision email before they take effect.
